After the SIM4 and SIM8, Intel began introducing the intellec series of Microcomputer Development Support equipment, first up were the intellec 4 / 40 and intellec 8/80 having the 4004, 4040, 8008, and 8080 respectively. While a fortunate few find these at garage / surplus sales for pocket change, i have given up waiting for one to fall into my lap so am building a reproduction system. First up is the PROM board, the imm6-26. This is a 4KB board comprised of sixteen 1702A EPROMS. Intellec card numbers were imm4 for the 4-bit intellecs and imm8 for the eight bit, and finally imm6 indicates that it was for use in either 4-bit or 8-bit systems.
Schematics are readily available and some who have these systems were gracious enough to send nice photographs of their cards so I could match the general layout and spacing of the original cards. To a lesser extent, I followed some of the trace patterns, but in the end I pretty much started laying out traces where they worked best. While the original imm6-26 could be used in either intellec 4 or 8 systems, it was geared towards the 8 and required cutting traces and adding components for use in an intellec 4. This board follows the original design, so to use in an intellec 4 will require the same patches that the original required. If interested, you can watch my youtube video on the design and operation of this card.
There was a missing trace on this layout so I need to make that correction and will then upload build files. The schematics are available here and the build files will be available there also. I think there is sufficient online documentation on the intellec systems that i will not be making a user’s manual, intel already has that covered.
